A NUMBER of workers, at various institutions, yesterday conducted their business in African attire to celebrate Africa Day.

Africa Day is celebrated on May 25, every year, to commemorate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963.

It is a day to promote the continent’s unity, diversity and cultural heritage.

It is also a time to reflect on the progress made by African nations and to address the challenges that still need to be overcome.

The celebrations typically involve music, dance, food and cultural exhibitions.

The OAU was succeeded by the African Union, which was officially launched in July 2002 in Durban, South Africa, to build on the work of its predecessor.

Among those who observed Africa Day were workers at Harare East Police Women’s Network,TelOne Hatfield and City Hair Saloon.

The Harare East Police Women’s Network officer, Chief Superintendent Maggie Mahala, said her team was proud of being African.

“We are geared to join other nations in celebrating Africa Day,” said Chief Supt Mahala.

“Women have motherly love, the responsibility and ability to produce the best for the nation.

“We encourage women to grow and eat traditional foods to remain healthy,” she said.

The ladies also displayed traditional African stuff like knobkerries, traditional walking sticks and clay pots.
