Zimbabwe made history yesterday when it became the first country to win gold in women’s cricket at the African Games in Accra, Ghana.
The Lady Chevrons delivered a stunning victory, in a tense final against neighbours South Africa which was decided in a Super Over.
The two neighbours found themselves tied at the end of their innings.
Zimbabwe, who batted first, ended on 112-5 in their 20 overs.
In reply, South Africa were 112-7 in their 20 overs.
After 15 overs, the South Africans were 76-5 but they managed to add another 36 runs for the loss of two wickets to tie the scores.
Miane Smith top-scored for South Africa with an unbeaten 31 runs and Leah Jones contributed 15 runs.
The impressive Kelis Ndhlovu, who has been one of the stars of the Lady Chevrons, took 2-21 while Loreen Tshima had figures of 1-14.
Modester Mupachikwa had top scored for Zimbabwe with 31 while Ndhlovu added another 28 runs.
