ZIMBABWE Women will face another stern international test when West Indies Women arrive in the country for a six-match white-ball series starting next week.
The tour, which comprises three One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals, will see the two sides clash at Harare Sports Club and Takashinga Cricket Club.
The ODI series, which forms part of the ICC Women’s Championship, gets underway at Harare Sports Club on September 24, with the second and third matches scheduled for September 27 and 30.
The teams will then switch to the shorter format, with the three T20Is set for Takashinga Cricket Club on October 3, 5 and 7.
The series comes at the end of a demanding international programme for Zimbabwe Women, who have already featured in ICC Women’s Championship assignments in New Zealand and Pakistan before their ongoing home T20I series against South Africa Women.
Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni said the visit by the West Indies would provide another important opportunity for the Lady Chevrons to gain experience against quality opposition.
“We are delighted to welcome West Indies Women to Harare for what promises to be an exciting series,” said Makoni.
“Regular exposure to high-quality international cricket is vital to the development of Zimbabwe Women and playing a side of West Indies’ stature gives our players another opportunity to test their skills, learn and build the experience and confidence they need to become more competitive.
“This tour adds to a busy programme for our women’s team and reflects our commitment to creating more opportunities for them at international level.”
The ODIs will all start at 9.30am, while the first T20I will begin at 1pm, with the final two matches scheduled for noon.
The series will also give Zimbabwe an opportunity to build momentum ahead of future international assignments, with regular exposure to established sides remaining an important part of the team’s development.
