Wet Christmas expected

HEAVY rains are expected throughout the country today according to the Meteorological Services Department. Outdoor activities like traditional Christmas braais and jumping castles for children are therefore likely to be affected.

The department has warned that the rains are likely to be accompanied by thunderstorm and advised people to be wary of lightning and flash floods.

Motorists, the department said, should exercise extra caution as the rains will make the roads slippery.

The department’s principal officer Jonathan Chifuna said rains could cause blurred vision and motorists should therefore be extra cautious.

“When it’s raining visibility gets reduced, roads get slippery and there is a danger of trees falling.

Motorists should drive carefully and should not attempt to cross flooded rivers,” Chifuna said.
