JEFFREY Murungweni emerged the second runner-up in the fourth African Youths in Tourism Innovation Category Challenge held in Botswana.
Murungweni brought home a trophy, certificate, branded bags, a cash prize of US$500 and seed funding opportunities.
“I am still ecstatic because being recognised, among the top three innovators from the whole continent, is such an honour.
“I am also proud because I was the only finalist at that stage who presented a project that was still in its idea stage.
“It’s called Trafiko Africa and produced in August this year,” he said.
Trafiki Africa is an automated WhatsApp chat bot that offers centralised tourism services.
It allows users to know more about tourist destinations in the Eastern Highlands and South East Lowveld of Zimbabwe.
“I am very grateful because this bears testimony to the work that the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism are doing to help nurture young entrepreneurs.
“It is also an honour to be adding onto the wave of success that young people from Zimbabwe are making all over the world.”
He added:
“In the different spaces that we find ourselves in, let us give it our all for the betterment of our country.
“For those within the tourism sector, my wish is that we collaborate and work towards marketing Brand Zimbabwe.
“It is our role to work with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority to help market our beautiful Zimbabwe as a destination of choice,” he said.
