A SOMBRE atmosphere descended on Zororo Memorial Park yesterday as scores of journalists gathered to bid farewell to Judith Nyuke, who died in an accident last week.
Judith was described as a promising and dedicated journalist.
Zimpapers’ Yeukai Karengezeka Chisepo said she had known Judith since 2018 when she was assigned to cover the courts. “Since then, we have been working together,” she said.
“We would spend almost every day together, looking for stories, writing stories together. To be honest, we are still in shock because Judy was somebody who we spent the day with on Friday.
“We did our work and we parted as usual and we promised to see each other next week on Monday.”
That never happened as Judith was struck by a truck the following day and died. Tatenda Chipungudzanye, another journalist, said Judith’s death was a huge loss to the profession.
He said it was painful that her life was cut short in an accident.
“It is so sad that we have lost a promising journalist. Unfortunately, her life had to be cut short while we thought she was going to go higher in her profession.
“All I just want to say is good night, Judith.
“You came, you wrote, people read, but the curtain has come down.
“Good night.”
