What To Expect In This Season’s Southern Region Division One
WITH many players moving from their clubs to seek greener pastures at Premier League club’s trials, new doors are opened for upcoming youngsters and the Southern Region Division One League would be an ideal starting point for many.
Arenel Movers were crowned champions last season and were promoted to the Premier League. This has left a new opportunity for other teams to challenge for glory and new stars to rise.
Runners-up ZPC Hwange, Talen Vision and Adachi are the teams which are most likely to challenge for the league just like last season with teams like Ciwu who played brilliant football last season also expected to be one of the giant killers.
Mkhokheli Dube’s Zebra Revolution, promoted from the Bulawayo Province Division Two league, have their own modern style of play which is to keep the ball even in tight spaces. It will be interesting to see how they are going to manage that style of play in a demanding and physical league.
Many players such as Prince Ndlovu, Darlington Mukuli and Gillian Nyathi have made their moves from the second tier league straight to topflight, opening gaps for other players in the developmental side. It will also be interesting to see the new faces which will be representing Bosso’s youth team.
Bulawayo City who were relegated from the Premier League in 2022 are said to be having interest in returning to the league and fight for a place again in the big boys’ league and if properly run, they can easily be one of the title contenders considering their experience.
Dates for the commencement of the league are yet to be confirmed, but with the Premier League having an early start, it would be wise for teams to start putting their houses in order.
