“ALL who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which seemed impossible,” said Orison Marden.
It is amusing, how people looking at the same thing can see totally different things. When you look at something, what do you see? When you see a buck, do you see nature or a buck? How do you see a problem; as a challenge or a stepping stone?
The way you view or perceive something determines the way you work towards that thing and the amount of energy you expend towards that particular thing. The first important thing is how you see yourself. It matters very little how people see you because all they can see about you is your clothes and your hairstyle.
What is really important is what you see when you look at you.
This is because when you see a talented songwriter or an artiste you will spend your time developing your talent.
It is really a big problem when you look in the mirror and all you see is that your make-up needs to be upgraded and your nose needs a ring.
Chances are you will spend the whole of that day or that week looking for money to get those things. It is not bad to look good.
But it must not define who you are. When you look in the mirror see the person you would want your kids to look at as a role model in the next 20 years.
The only way you can do this is by improving the way you see yourself and start focusing on things that really last.
If you see yourself as a failure and so you shall be and if you view yourself as a champion you will surely become one because you don’t want to disappoint the person you see when you look in the mirror. In the Bible, Moses sent out 12 spies into the same land at the same time but when they came back, they gave totally different reports
.This is not because they were in different provinces or what they saw what they wanted to see and therefore they told Moses what they had seen.
Whilst, the other 10 saw a giant-infested land, Joshua and Caleb saw a fertile land. This does not mean that Joshua and Caleb did not see the giants, they saw them but they chose not to consider them.
Just as you should refuse to allow what you see to hinder you from achieving your dreams.
Have the correct mindset and view things in a favourable way and surely you will achieve what you aim to. From our opening quote, the gentleman said successful people fix their gaze on the goal.
This is not to mean that they are blind to problems or obstacles don’t get in their way, it simply means they ignore problems and fix their eyes on the goal.
In school one encounters lots of trials, such as betrayal from friends, false rumours about oneself or problems at home that hinder one from concentrating in class or ignore the problem. But you must refuse to let the problem become the centre of your life.
To take the words of Pat Riley; “Don`t spend your energy on negative things, even if they are very present. Look at the brighter side and start expending your energy towards it .
If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive your best effort, eventually you will overcome your immediate problems and find you are ready for greater challenges.”
