ACTION resumes in the Zifa Central Soccer League today after a two-week break with log leaders Whawha travelling to Gwanda for a date with gold miners, Vumbachikwe hoping to extend their lead.
An Albert Matewu strike was all the correctional services side needed to dispatch Vumbachikwe.
The log leaders have collected 29 points in 13 matches and are four points clear of second placed ZRP Beitbridge, Tongogara and Gweru City who all have amassed 25 points but are separated on goal difference.
A win today will see Whawha at least maintaining their lead depending on the outcome of the results of their closest rivals.
Whawha mentor, Luke Petros-Jukulile said his side is looking for a positive result to maintain the momentum as the home stretch begins.
Jukulile’s side is buoyed on by four new acquisitions who joined the side during the mid-season transfer window.
“It will be a tricky assignment but we are hopeful of coming out with a positive result which will see our championship campaign remain on course.
“We also recruited four players during the transfer window who include former Hardbody defender, Cornelius Simango, former Dynamos goalkeeper, Matthew Urayayi, Laison Nthala who is coming from Flame Lily and David Katsanza who was unattached,” he said.
Jukulile said the incoming players would add depth to the side and would increase the team’s prospects for promotion.
However, the side will be missing the services of centre striker David Katsanza who is suspended for the match after picking three yellow cards.
His counterpart, Max Ruza vowed to turn the tables on the correctional services side saying his side is all out for revenge.
In other matches, Tongogara and Gweru City will be battling for second spot when the two sides clash at Battlefields while second placed ZRP Beitbridge will make the long trip to Zvishavane for a date with FC Platinum Under-19s.
