WHAWHA turned on the power in the title march thrashing a hapless Nkayi United 8-0 in a Zifa Central Soccer League match played at the Prisons Grounds on Sunday. Closest rivals MSU also maintained pressure with a four nil drubbing of Silo United at MSU grounds, a result which saw the “Varsity Sharks” maintaining a point gap between them and the log leaders.
With two rounds of matches to go, the championship might be settled for the first time since the inaugural 2010 season when FC Platinum (then Mimosa) were confirmed winners on the final day of the season after beating Hardbody one nil at Mandava.
Barring any surprises in the next round of matches where Whawha take on Gweru City at Wilson Fields at the same time the “Varsity Sharks” travel to Zvishavane for another tricky tie with FC Platinum Under-19, the fate of the two teams will be in their hands.
The two teams clash at the correctional services grounds on the final day of the season.
In the reverse fixture Whawha got the better of MSU three-nil in their own backyard.
In other matches ZRP Beitbridge kept alive their chances of gaining promotion after clobbering Chrome Stars two-nil at Dulibadzimu Stadium.
The loss by Stars effectively vanquished their promotional chances.
