CORRECTIONAL services club, Whawha’s fine run in the Zifa Central Soccer League will once again be put to test when they make the long trip to Beitbridge for a date with ZRP Beitbridge at Dulibadzimu Stadium today.
Whawha are at the top of the table with 26 points with an 11-match unbeaten run while the border town police outfit has hit a purple patch as they have not lost in their last five encounters.

The fine run has seen the police club climbing the standings to third position with 21 points from 11 matches which makes today’s clash all to play for as a victory for the border town club might put them within reach of controlling the championship race.

A heated encounter is expected at Dulibadzimu as ZRP Beitbridge’s attack has proved to be the most potent in the league having netted 26 goals in 11 matches. Last week they massacred Zvishavane Stars 5-0 away at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.

ZRP Beitbridge secretary Russell Majuta declared war on their rivals and said they are ready to hand the visitors their first defeat of the season.

“Whawha have been playing well just as we have been doing and our aim is to gain promotion at the end of the season. We need to beat them tomorrow so that we reduce the gap,” he said.

Luke Petros Jukulile, the Whawha mentor, is wary of the hosts but said his charges were ready to face the Beitbridge based side whose precision at goal has been impressive.

“Obviously as a home team they would want to make use of that but we have prepared in a manner that we get a positive result. We always prepare for a win but even a point away is vital but that doesn’t mean we want a draw,” said Petros.

In other matches, Gweru City travel to Mashava for a date with Gaths Mine while Chrome Stars who returned to winning ways with a 3-0 drubbing of Nkayi United face Silo United in a Kwekwe derby.

Second-placed Tongogara will be hoping to improve on their 1-1 draw with Vumbachikwe when they play host to MSU at Battlefields.
