prepares for death and no one gets used to death, no matter its frequency.
On January 31 this year, our house experienced a power outage after a tree fell on the main cable.
Supplies were later restored but we started having electric shocks each time we came in contact with metal objects.
As fate would have it, on February 3, my only child and son, Richard Kevin Rugube, woke up to prepare for school and went bathing.
Suddenly we heard screams from the bathroom. His father Richard Snr, rushed to the bathroom and found him electrocuted. It was horrible and unthinkable.
Kevin, Kevin, Kevin! Today you are indeed a year older, for you should have turned 17. I am so confident that you are growing up in that world.
I was reading the Word of God in Matthew 22 from 23 when the Saduccees were asking Jesus about resurrection.
Apparently, the Saducees said there is no resurrection.
They approached Christ and asked Him: “Teacher, Moses said if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.
“Now they were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. Likewise the second also and the third and even to the seventh.
“Last of all, the woman died also. Therefore, in the resurrection whose wife of the seven, will she be for they all had married her.
“Jesus Christ answered and said to them, ‘You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are they given in marriage, but are like angels of God in Heaven. But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying:
“I am the God of the Abraham, The God of Isaac and The God of Jacob. God is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
Son, I must say that knowing the scriptures and having revelation has and is helping me cope with what happened on 3 February 2011.
When I read this scripture I took it literally that you my son are alive with Christ.
It is not easy to comprehend but apparently scripture says so and I just have to believe The word of God or else I will perish.
The word of God has and continues to strengthen me and convicting me that you are alive in Christ Jesus.
For the past three weeks I even went further to Ezekiel 37 – The Valley of the Dry Bones.
“The Hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in The Spirit of The Lord and sat me down in the midst of the valley and it was full of bones.
“Then He caused me to pass by them all around and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. And He said to me.
“Son of man, can these bones live? So I answered ‘Oh Lord, You know’. Again He said to me prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Oh dry bones, hear the Word of The Lord. Thus says The Lord God to these bones. “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you and you shall live.
“I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am The Lord.”
“So I prophesied as I was commanded and as I prophesied there was a noise and suddenly a rattling and the bones came together bone to bone. Indeed as I looked the sinews and the flesh came upon them and the skin covered them over but there was no breath in them.
“Also He said to me Prophesy to the breath, prophesy son of man and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God, come from the four winds oh breath and breath on these slain that they may live’. So I prophesied as He commanded me and breath came into them and lived and stood upon their feet an exceedingly great army.
“Then He said to me, ‘Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say our bones are dry, our hope is lost and we ourselves are cut off. Therefore prophesy and say to them, thus says the Lord God, behold On my people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves and bring you into the Land of Israel.
“Then you shall know that I am The Lord when I have opened your graves, oh My people and brought you up from your graves. I will put My Spirit in you and you shall live. And I will place in your own land, then you shall know that I The Lord have spoken it and performed it. Says The Lord.”
For my son Kevin, the word of God has and continues to give me hope.
I know God is taking me into deep and profound spiritual realms with Him as I walk this road after 3 February 2011.
Inasmuch as it is like a spear and a sword has been permanently placed on my chest and heart, I fully understand that God is The Great I am, The Holy One of Israel.
I am not quite there yet, but like Paul, I am running this race set before me and I am eyeing a golden crown.
You ran it my boy! You won! And you are surely saying Ebenezer The Lord has brought me this far! Kevin, you fought the good fight and now you are living with The Lord.
The other day I was telling God to bring you back here on earth in the best earthly and human form.
I was quoting Ezekiel 37. I am still engaging and discussing with God. But one thing I am so sure of my boy is that you are certainly alive in Christ Jesus.
I therefore wish you a great happy birthday. Seventeen years is no joke son. You are indeed so grown up. And boy I am so proud of you. Remember our first trip to Disneyland when we were left by the plane.
You thought it was so funny as I was pleading with the airline staff to stop the plane.
Oh Gosh, some of the escapades we had.
Those rides!
Remember Malaga, in Spain, by the Mediteranean Sea, when we were swimming in that salty sea.
The Gorge Swing in Vic Falls.
One day I will gather some bit of strength and have a look at the video.
For now, they are just sweet strong memories.
That elephant right in the middle of the road in Kariba and you wanted me to drive and run over it! Kevin honestly!
Remember how I took over reversing at 60km an hour praying and shouting that the elephant does not charge.
I really disappointed you, I know.
You wanted us to run over it.
The bird watching and mountain climbing in the Eastern Highlands. Our adopted dog by the motel inn.
Our famous trip to South Africa where we went up Table Mountain, round Cape of Good Hope and finally Robben Island.
Remember Nelson Mandela’s blanket and his bed.
The tour guide became your buddie. You made friends so easily and I guess its easy for you with Christ.
Those rides at Gold Reef. I was always the one petrified and screeching and screaming and you were always the man by my side cheering me on!
The world was our stage my boy. We enjoyed and I really thank God that He resourced us to gallivant and enjoy ourselves. We actually have some excess miles still outstanding.
Remember, this year, were supposed to have taken our maiden trip to Israel. I guess, you are in Spiritual Israel.
I am not sure whether I will go. But One thing I am certain my boy is that because Scripture says so, You are alive and so Happy, Happy, Happy 17 years and hey I wish you many more!
I love you so much and I will always do, cherishing the moments we shared together.
Alas, I had forgotten. Remember your 15th birthday. Boy that was so divine. You got baptized on your 15th birthday without us knowing that it was your birthday.
Completely forgot and only remembered at 3pm.
That was so spiritually funny. But I guess that is God for you. Only God. Only God. I just hold onto Him.
I take His Word literally and that is what keeps me going son.
You take care and God Bless.
