When Mandozaa��s Nkalakatha brought SA together

Although he may no longerA�A� be with us, Mandozaa��s hit single Nkalakatha was undoubtedly a game changer for the kwaito genre.

When the single dropped in 2000 with that hard-hitting bass, no dancefloor was left empty, Nkalakatha was a township anthem, that soon progressed into our own national party anthem with every single race enjoying the song.

Whether you were rich, poor, black, white or green, Nkalakatha was your song, from hearing it on Ukhozi FM you were sure convinced to hear the song on unlikely radio stations too like Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio.

It was more than just a party song, it was a perfect example of what a rainbow nation looked like.

No festival or family get-together was complete without Mandozaa��s raspy voice echoing through the speakers as he yelled a�?Nkalakatha!a�?

And who could forget the dance moves, when Gabbi Le Roux (Mandozaa��s music producer) and him, completed the song, wea��re sure they left the studio that day proud at the smash-hit they had created, little did they know that this song would be a game changer for South African music as a whole.

Mandoza even made an ode to the Springboks a few years back, the ode was a remix of the original Nkalakatha song.

Wea��ve lost a lot of great kwaito artistes throughout the years, from Brown Dash, to Zombo, Makhendlas and now Mandoza. Death be not proud.

Mandoza passed away on Sunday afternoon, 18 September 2016.
