When the demon of squandering fees strikes

Latwell Nyangu-Youth Interactive Writer

School fees is one thing that gives our parents and guardians in a hard time.

There are a lot of sacrifices put to pay our fees.

Parents may be forced to dig deeper into their pockets to raise fees and many times fail to provide for the family at home.

The back to school euphoria always come with stresses as some schools or colleges will not be accepting students who would not have paid their fees.

One thing that frustrates as a student is to be sent back home over unpaid fees.

And imagine after sacrificing all the monies, someone squanders the fees.

This is one of the commonest situation at college, but is not talked about much.

Students are squandering fees and the act has dire consequences in the end.

The beginning might not have any problem, but it is always the end which matters most.

When you finish exams, waiting for results, you will be in a fix.

Many people think that demons are only found in churches where congregants manifest.

In church, pastors or prophets pray for their members where at times some manifest through rolling on the ground, screaming, run, jump or do other strange actions.

And many times, it is believed that, if you don’t manifest, you are not possessed.

I beg to disagree. Being possessed comes in different ways. What do you call someone who spends the whole school  fees?

As is the norm, I am too observant. In a certain year, I was at a certain college and I had a friend who was in love with a girl. It was first term and you know how it is with pressures of starting up.

The events of that semester make me laugh, even up today. The victim is still my close fellow to date. He squandered fees after going out with his lover.

The results were dire, we spent the whole semester donating to him as he was penniless.

And then another moment, I was again at another learning institution with a different crop of students now.

I was in a class, which was nicknamed, ‘special class’ due to wild characters.

We had one fellow, who was very overzealous and he would squander fees each time he wanted to drink beer and worse he would do it for almost everyone.

He threw parties for other students, but the results again were ruthless as we had to foot for his daily food and accommodation bills, takachiona that semester.

Taigodii iye ari wemudanga.

I will not hesitate to say, squandering fees is a demon which you cannot even suspect.

Up to now, I still laugh at them, but sadly, during the same semester, this fellow had to defer after spending the whole fees.

Hanzi mari inonaka kudya ndeyetuition or exams fees (Tuition or exams fees is easy to squander), I don’t how far true that is.

Like I always say, today’s generation doesn’t think about tomorrow, it’s a crazy one.

If telling the truth is an offence, I would rather commit the offence. Many parents or guardians have been given so many excuses by some fellow students after failing to bring results.

Today’s college students need to manage their money differently than in the past.

The days of lingering at college and wasting money are over.

Students today need to embrace the “starving student” mentality not just to let their parents pay for all the costs.

The lessons also help themselves learn solid money lessons that will serve them well later in life.

Managing cash well as a student is not only a good habit to learn, but it also contributes to future financial success.

Students who master managing their cash flow will not only receive their certificates for intellectual excellence, but will graduate with practical life experience and a financial acumen that will give them a great start in life.

It is a fact that college life is expensive for many reasons, including a surge in demand, an increase in financial aid, a need for more faculty demands and ballooning student services.

Certificates or results have not been declared at home due to unforeseeable reasons and I am keen to know what statements have been explained.

But the main reason apart from failing are that; the fees were squandered.

So many conspiracies have been invented by fellow students just to cover up after squandering fees. Some have even deferred their courses after using the fees.

Reasons for squandering the fees range from partying, beer binges, fashion, peer pressure, show-off among others.

Once you feel like using the fees, just know the demon is about to strike.

But whatever the way you use it, even if you invest, it remains squandering fees.

The moment you see yourself tempted or squandering school fees, know that, the demon is upon you

If I am to throw a stone in the streets, I am sure, I will hit students who did not collect their results due to non-payment of fees.

And such culprits have given their parents or guardians a different narration.

I have never been a victim of squandering fees, but I have seen many casualties of this demon.

Interestingly, children who run into trouble with money sometimes blame their parents for not showing them how to manage it.

Parents should include checks and balances that will hold their children accountable.

Schools fees should be used wisely.

Many students have failed to sit for their exams, deferred semesters, failed to get jobs after squandering their fees.

Let not the demon strike you, no wonder why some parents now demand receipts after giving their children money to pay fees.

Let the demon vacate in Jesus name!
