Where are the NGOs?

Isdore Guvamombe
ZIMBABWE has a multifarious array of non-governmental organisations registered under the auspices of trying to help development of the country and help the poor, the marginalised and the disadvantaged. It is sad that most of the NGOs have turned political at the expense of the disadvantaged local communities that they so claim to want to help.

A case in point is that of the Yirira community at the border with Zambia in Mbire, where villagers are surviving on wild beans and tubers that take at least 12 hours to detoxicate and prepare as a meal.

The picture collage shows the level of poverty among the Yirira people, who are transforming from nomadic life to permanent settlement.
