subscribers who pay monthly subscriptions and only get to watch TV around midnight. Of course, there are those who have invested quite a bit in generators, at least they get to see television even when there is no electricity.
But even with a generator at home you would need a constant supply of fuel because you cannot watch television the whole day using a generator otherwise you won’t last for a week depending on the type of generator.
As for me, the only option is to know what and when to watch at least that way I will be safe lest I run out of fuel.
Here’s a quick sneak of last week’s highlights on TV.
ZBCTV
I noted ZBCTV are doing well with brain teasers and I know etv Africa have their own “Did You Know?” However, it’s almost one and the same thing with ZBCTV although ZBCTV brain teasers focus on the history of Zimbabwe while etv Africa’s is broad.
Speaking of ZBCTV I wonder where Musorowegomo Mukosi is? Here’s one newscaster who used to do it like no other. I remember when I was at Harare Polytechnic College Musorowegomo was at Christian College of Southern Africa. We were like homeboys and there was “beef” between the two colleges not so much physical but an academic one. We always wanted to outdo each other in college.
But during our time we managed to bridge the gap and we formed an association of journalism students and since we were both active members of that executive we interacted a lot.
Apparently, Musorowegomo and myself have some of the unique names. I remember Tinashe Chiname, who was a disc jockey on Power FM used to make fun of our names whenever he was on air. Chiname even joked about how we struggled to spell our names during our early days in primary school.
There is no denying the fact that Musorowegomo has the voice and skill of a newscaster. He has a deep and unmistakable voice that draws listenership like that of Joseph Madhimba.
The last time I checked Musorowegomo was on sanctions list among other local journalists. Frankly speaking, that is sad and I feel journalists should be allowed to do their job without any undue interference.
What’s worse is that Musorowegomo is no longer on air and we wonder if this was an act of sanctions or not. The question is where is Musorowegomo? Is there a way of giving this young and promising newscaster a chance? I think we all deserve a second chance.
It is about time Happison Muchechetere and Tazzern Mandizvidza revisit the Musorowegomo issue and see whether or not he can be allowed back on our screens.
There are many, who like me, enjoy listening to his voice on the airwaves and this is a passionate plea to have him back on ZBCTV. I have no doubt he will do better than he used to.
Big Brother Amplified
We are now in the homestretch of the reality series that airs on DStv’s channel 198. It’s a good thing that the show is available on most DStv bouquets. But isn’t it obvious that one of the two winners will be from Nigeria?
This is one of the reasons I have not been so keen on following this season’s Big Brother? It appears the producers have run out steam and the more they change things the more the show remains the same and that’s a big yawn!
With only two weeks to go with 10 housemates eyeing the grand prize of US$200 000 each there is need to vote for your favourite housemate.
Email of the week
What’s up my brother Jonathan?
I just want to let you know that we are shooting Zimbabwe’s first medical drama, which will be screened on ZBCTV. We are still finalising the logistics of getting things in progress in terms of casting, costume, filming location and other bits and pieces.
Susan Makore of Mighty Movies is the one working on getting the resources together. From what she said, she has already organised a director, Marc Mandisoul, the guy who has just finished making the movie City of Dreams.
Auditions should be starting in the near future.
