Celebrities we love to hate
Maneta becomes a celebrity
The year 2012 made Maneta Mazanhi an overnight celebrity and although she does not make it into the list of our favourite celebrities, she turns heads everywhere she goes. While some believe she has the face of an angel others to this day hate her for “costing the country the Big Brother StarGame” ultimate prize. Comedian Carl Joshua was quick to create jokes about the whole incident at his end of year show last year. Love or hate her, life goes on for Maneta. She might not be the smartest person in town but she is smiling her way through her overseas shopping sprees.

Roki back on lime light
Urban grooves bad boy Rockford Josphat had another shot at fame when he “almost” made Zimbabwe proud at the Big Brother StarGame. Although things did not work out for him in the house, doors opened for the talented artiste back home. After getting his heroes’ welcome he immediately revived his career. The new “Mr Zimbabwe Sweetheart” image did not last long. In no time he had gone back to his old ways. I guess once you go bad there’s no turning back for sure.

Welcome back Makhosi
Controversial Makhosi Musambasi sneaked back into Zimbabwe last year. As far as she is concerned, her past is staying in the past. She indicated that she has toned down on the drama and is looking into making new start in the motherland. We are not exactly sure on what she is getting at but something tells us we will be seeing a lot of her this year. No place like home after all!
Bad year

Tino gets beat down
The media was abuzz with the domestic violence news of Zi FM breakfast presenter Tinopa “Tin-Tin” Katsande. While we condemn all kinds of gender based violence, it is worth mentioning that the actress-cum-presenter dealt with the issue head on. She refused to keep her ordeal on the hush and posted pictures of her swollen face all over social networks. There were mixed reactions from the general public she managed to add her voice to the fight against GBV. The New Year seems to have presented a fresh page for the 33-year-old who has redirected her focus to her career. You go girl!  

Good year
New stations on radio
The entertainment scene saw two giant radio stations, Star FM and Zi FM, joining SFm, Radio Zimbabwe, Power FM and National FM. The newcomers shook things up and got other stations to pull up their socks. Star FM made waves after attracting international visitors to its studios for exclusive interviews and programmes. Listeners have been spoiled rotten with competitions that have seen winners going for international concerts. Star FM general manager Admire Taderera was on the record last year as saying the best is yet to come.

Hard work pays off for Chinyama
Family man Takesure Chinyama had a dream of a season in 2012. He kissed Dynamos Football Club goodbye barely 10 games into the season after attracting interest from the South African Premiership. Chinyama trekked Down South where he joined Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. He has since settled in Mzansi and is already banging in some important goals for Pirates. The forward striker might be far from home but players here can learn a valuable lesson from this mate, it surely pays to have focus!

Artistic innovations
Beverly “Bev” Sibanda “invented” the bottle dance and we shall not give further explanations on it. The dance might have sparked controversy but it earned her a ticket to the uptown life. She boasts being an employer and the proud owner of a brand new ride.

Macheso invents the Zora Butter
It did not come as a surprise, considering the king of sungura has been a trendsetter from the onset. Alick Macheso successfully introduced the “Zora Butter” dance. Unlike Bev’s, it is safe to try out at home.

Munya and Adiona finally tie the knot
Big Brother All Stars finalist Munyaradzi Chidzonga finally ironed out his differences with on-and-off girlfriend and baby mama Adiona Maboreke. After going through the bumpiest patch in their lives they eventually realised that they belonged nowhere else but with each other. In the months that followed, they were spotted together at social events and parties around the capital. From the looks of things we will not be getting any drama from the pair. Chidzonga has now settled on his career as a movie maker and things are back to normal. We wish them the best!

Celebrities who kicked the bucket
A dark cloud hung over the nation as we mourned the death of our heroes. Football legend Adam “Adamski” Ndlovhu, music icon Andy Brown, veteran actor Walter Mparutsa all passed on during the course of 2012. While memories of them are still fresh in our minds, life has to go on.
This New Year brings in a new platform to live life to the fullest and die empty!
