THE man accused of shooting at High Court judge, Justice Emilia Muchawa, was yesterday convicted of criminal nuisance.
Nation Musekiwa was found guilty after a full trial by Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure, who warned and cautioned him never to commit a similar offence.
Prosecutor Anesu Chirenje proved that on January 31, at around 7.30pm, Justice Muchawa was driving home with her husband, Pascal Muchawa, along Old Mazowe Road.
As they approached Tom Farm, along Old Mazowe Road, they noticed Musekiwa’s white Honda Civic driving in front of them.
As they were about to turn into Good Hope Road, they realised that Musekiwa’s vehicle was still ahead of them driving in the direction of their house. Musekiwa then stopped his car, close to the judge’s residence, and they also stopped.
Musekiwa then fired a shot into the air and the couple sped off to Justice Energy Bhunu’s house to seek refuge. Justice Muchawa reported the shooting to the police and detectives found a 9mm cartridge close to her gate.
On February 1, Musekiwa handed himself over to the police after the shooting incident went viral on social media.
The police recovered the pellet gun from him and a ballistics test was conducted.
