adminLONDON. — Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has explained why Thierry Henry’s departure from the club was best for all parties. Wenger has revealed Henry’s media role left him in an uncomfortable position at Arsenal. The 39-year-old, who is the club’s record scorer, decided to turn down an offer to coach the Gunners Under-18 side full-time when told he would not be allowed to continue his media commitments with Sky while in the role. Henry had been working as a coach with Arsenal’s Under-18s last season alongside working as a pundit for Sky.
But Wenger gave the club’s record goalscorer an ultimatum to leave his job on TV if he wanted to continue as a youth coach.
Henry eventually decided to walk away from the Gunners to continue with his role with Sky.
The Frenchman has since taken up a role with Roberto Martinez’s Belgium as an assistant manager. — The Daily Express.
