Why Jose sold Depay

MANCHESTER. — Jose Mourinho has claimed he didn’t have enough space for Memphis Depay to fit into his plans at Manchester United. Mourinho confirmed that Depay had joined Lyon yesterday with a deal agreed on Thursday night. The Holland international has struggled to live up to expectations since he joined Manchester United for £25million from PSV Eindhoven in 2015.

And under Mourinho the 22-year-old found opportunities hard to come by.

But the United boss paid credit to Depay for his professionalism throughout the past few months but conceded he couldn’t fit him into his already overloaded squad.

“He was a fantastic professional, so if somebody thinks he didn’t work because he was not a great professional it is totally wrong,” Mourinho said. — The Daily Express.
