Just to try and cover a bit of the technicality behind and the advantages of having a Smart TV over our standard TV sets, I will highlight the benefits of having such a device both at home or at work.
Personally, I think Smart TVs in Zimbabwe will be much more popular at work than at home. The main reason behind is for you to be able to achieve maximum usage of its functionality, one has to be connected on real broadband internet speeds, preferably unlimited. For most people at home, the charge is pricey.
Although, without internet connectivity or high speeds, one can also enjoy other serious offline services exclusive to Smart TVs especially the High Definition 3D/4D video capabilities.
I have no words that can really define the video quality that is projected by a 3D/4D screen, All I can say in short is that once you migrate to a 3D/4D screen, you will simply toss away that old TV set.
The difference is just too huge that you feel you have been wasting your eyes away and if you really value entertainment, then there is no substitute for quality.
Watching a 3D/4D movie literally takes away the big screen and brings every motion to life! Its like you are now part of the actual movie and the action is happening around you.
For high graphics movies or games on 3D, its quite normal to hear people literally scream their way down as they get carried away in the movie.
The 3D/4D movies gives you a visual projection that literally protrudes way outside the screen bringing the action not just closer to the eyes but right in your own environment, its like you are watching a live theatre, you become part of it, but in hardcore action. Like I previously said, you need to have your 3D glasses on to get the real visual.
You can even connect a DVD player to your smart TV and record content directly from the Internet for playback later.
Back to the gadget itself, the Smart TV uses technology that combines Ethernet ports, integrated WiFi capability, Internet-based streaming video and online personal support with the medium of television.
What makes it really a Smart TV like our Smartphones is the single hardware units with built-in processors and operating systems enable customization options to suit your needs, like android, iOS or windows based phones and laptops, so are the TVs.
Social Networking
These features combined allow you to run apps, add apps, chat with friends, play games, listen to music, engage in social networking while you watch television on your TV set.
Smart TV companion apps synced with television programming converts your television time into a socializing opportunity as broadcasters.
You can even add up your own content or video and broadcast online, so you are not only receiving a signal but sending forth too.
Internet Capabilities
Whatsoever you laptop can do, the Smart TV can do it too, this time on a much bigger screen via wifi hotspot, even using a hotspot created by a phone or connected via Ethernet cable.
However a Smart TV is usually confused with an Internet TV yet these two are slightly different. An Internet TV or Internet ready TV is a TV set which only has internet capabilities.
This however needs Smart TV Set-Top Boxes hardware equipment to work and is limited to preloaded apps for connectivity.
Boardroom Meetings or Presentations
Its probably time to ditch your dazzling video projector which you keep struggling with in lighting conditions. A smart TV can now replace this. Quickly access you presentation on a USB drive straight on the Smart TV and get a flawless presentation via a remote control
Video Conferencing
This feature gets much more amazing on the big screen, imagine you are in a board room meeting and you are connecting to your Bulawayo sub office and need urgent statistics from Mutare and want them presented to your boss in Victoria Valls.
Forget the mails or phone calls, just get all of them on smart TVs at the same time and chat live in real time as you see them on the video, in few minutes, the meeting is done.
Using far field voice input processing, TVs with Conexant chips pick up the sound of a voice across the room and filter out the sound of the TV so that a conversation can take place.
No Need For Keyboard
Smart TV remote controls feature a functional computer keyboard, optical mouse and navigation buttons. The keyboard’s essential buttons and numerical keys appear on a remote control as well.
Screen size, pixels, and whether the TV is LED, LCD or Plasma are the main factors in determining the price of any HDTV content throwing
This is probably one cool feature to fully utilise both at work and at home. It allows programming to be transferred from the Smartphone or tablet to the big screen. Imagine you want to make a point clear during a boardroom discussion then you quickly throw the content on the big screen.
It could be a demo strategy or a simple picture.
One cool feature too is to be able to receive the throw signal, in a wifi environment, during a boardroom meeting or from various offices, people with a certain password can easily receive documents straight from the TV, this is of much relevance in a meeting where you quickly tell the attendees to receive a file, instead of them browsing through papers, they just click through the digital shared media.
Smart TVs should no longer be seen as standalone devices but as a core part of a wider ecosystem of connected products interacting with one another, and each having a distinctive role to play depending on the type of content being consumed.
People talk about the second screen experience. What is much more enjoyable is having the exact content on your phone or tablet being projected on the big screen, be it a picture slide show or HD video.
This also eliminates the need for extra cables like HDMI which often are intrusive and may have to be connected each time the user wants to use the TV as a PC screen, only to disconnect it when finished so the connection itself doesn’t get in the way.
Besides accessing files on an external storage device such as a hard drive, cloud storage is accessible as well, giving their users many ways to see their content on the TV screen.
