THE Chegutu chapter of the Liberation War Hero Widows Association has hailed Government and all its departments for the continuous support they are getting to look after their families even after the death of their husbands.
Speaking during the Chegutu District Heroes’ Day Celebrations held at Gadzema Heroes’ Acre on Monday, the chapter’s chairlady, Ms Shelter Mandibaya, said Government had showed love and support to the widows of the fallen heroes.
“As widows of the fallen heroes, we would like to thank the great support that we are getting from the Government of Zimbabwe.
“We are getting support through school fees for our children. We may not get enough money, but we are grateful,” she said.
“We have benefited from the various inputs programmes, including the Command Agriculture Programme. Yes, we may not have received tractors, but we are benefiting from these Government initiatives.
“We look forward to getting training on fish farming, poultry production and other various initiatives so that we also contribute to the national fiscus as well as sustaining our families.”
Ms Mandibaya also thanked the local leadership for encouraging them to form mining cooperatives so that they also join the mining sector.
“Allow me to thank our local leadership for remembering and supporting us through and through.
“Our service chiefs, they led our husbands during the liberation war and even today they have not forsaken us,” she said.
