WIDOWS UP IN ARMS

WIDOWS, who are under an association that was formed to help members with projects, have threatened to withdraw membership claiming the leaders are the only ones benefiting.

More than 150 members have been contributing US$2 per month to the Widows Association since January last year.

However, they feel they are being robbed by the leaders who are feeding themselves and making empty promises.

The promised projects include poultry, mining, fishing, piggery and brick moulding.

“We are being robbed in daylight by people who are supposed to help us.

“We thought the association had our concerns at heart and agreed to the deductions from our pension fund. But we have realised that the leadership is just feeding itself while we sit on empty promises.

“Every dollar counts because it’s money we worked for. It’s mine chero chikava chikorobho chikabiwa ndinorwadziwa, ngavasadaro.

“They want to cushion themselves with our tears, it’s bad especially coming from fellow widows,” said one of the widows.

One of the Widows Association leaders, Lindy Gutura, said dates for the training of members in various projects have been set and those who are complaining are enemies of the projects.

“We are faced with the possibility of some widows withdrawing their membership but their withdrawal will not stop us from helping those who are willing,” said Gutura.

“We have already circulated dates for the training of members in various projects to all provinces, starting with Harare.
