The 25-year-old man from Dete who stabbed his 24-year-old wife to death on Christmas day was found dead two days later after he allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree. Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed that Kelvin Ngwenya was found dead a few metres from his mother’s grave.
Ngwenya stabbed his wife, Naomi Dube, once on the back of her head with a knife leading to her death.
“The accused whom we had launched a man hunt for was found dead on 27 December in a suspected case of suicide two days after stabbing his wife to death,” Asst Insp Makonese told Chronicle yesterday.
A family friend who spoke on condition of anonymity yesterday said Ngwenya had disappeared after stabbing his wife to death.
“After killing his wife Ngwenya disappeared. Two days after the murder he sent his sister a text message at around 3am asking her to meet him at his mother grave,” said the family member.
“When she visited their mother’s grave at around five the same morning she found him hanging from a nearby tree.” A report was made at Dete Police station.
