Wife stops hubby’s secret wedding

A 36-YEAR-OLD woman dramatically stopped her husband from secretly marrying another woman at the Bulawayo Civil Court yesterday.

Ms Francisca Ncube from Gokwe stormed into the court when her husband from Nkulumane suburb Mr Future Mbiba (37) was exchanging vows with Ms Pretty Tshuma (35).

Deathly silence followed when Bulawayo magistrate Mr Jeconiah Ncube asked the court if there was anyone who had a reason why Mr Mbiba and Ms Tshuma should not get married.

Before the magistrate could even say the person should speak or forever hold their peace, a voice from the crowd was heard saying: “Yindoda yami! Ufuna ukungithathela indoda yami” (he is my husband! You want to take my husband away from me) and Mr Mbiba gasped in shock.

Mr Mbiba, who was now sweating, failed to answer his ‘bride’ when he was asked if what Ms Ncube was saying was true.

Ms Ncube allegedly received a tip-off from her neighbours in Nkulumane suburb when she was at their rural home in Gokwe that her husband was getting married at court and she decided to attend.

Ms Mbiba’s customary law wife said she would not allow her husband to marry another woman while she was still alive.

The “bride” and the “groom” endured embarrassed silence until the magistrate called the families to discuss the issue behind the scenes.

It is alleged that Mr Mbiba had a small house whom he was now staying with while his wife was away in Gokwe. Mr Mbiba allegedly lied to Ms Tshuma that he had divorced his wife.

Ms Ncube’s family came out of the meeting saying the wedding should not proceed as the two were customarily married and  had three children.

Mr Mbiba agreed that the wedding should be called off. — @sharonbuwe.
