A 27-year old man from Zaka is battling for life in hospital after sustaining serious injuries on the head and hand when his jealous wife struck him with a log for arriving home late.Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Chief Peter Zhanero confirmed the incident saying Innocent Mangwande was admitted at Masvingo General Hospital.
He said the woman, Cynthia Mapasure, 19, of the same village has since been arrested and was expected to appear in court on attempted murder charges.
Mangwande had just arrived home from a local sports bar on Monday last week where he had gone to watch Zimbabwe play Burkina Faso on television in the ongoing Chan soccer tournament.
“At around 6PM, Mangwande went to Nyika Bar to watch a Chan soccer match between Burkina Faso and Warriors on Dstv. Soon after the match, he went home at around 11PM where he found the emotionally charged Mapasure waiting for him,” Chief Insp Zhanero said.
“She confronted her husband and demanded an explanation from him. It appears Masapure was not satisfied with the explanation given by her husband. An altercation ensued with the woman accusing the complainant of seeing his girlfriends.”
Chief Insp Zhanero added: “She then demanded her husband’s cellphone intending to check on his call history but Mangwande refused to surrender it and the wife picked up a cooking stick and struck Mangwande.”
As if not enough, the infuriated woman took a log and struck her husband on the head causing Mangwande to collapse as he started vomiting.
Mangwande was rushed to Ndanga Hospital in Zaka before he was transferred to Masvingo General Hospital.
