A MAN from Bulawayo’s Hillside suburb yesterday claimed he deserted his family because of his abusive wife whose unacceptable behaviour he alleged is influenced by the apostolic sect she belongs to.Obadiah Dumbu made these allegations when he was dragged to the maintenance court by his estranged wife, Memory Gotosa.
Gotosa was demanding $250 for the upkeep of their three minor children.
Dumbu claimed he sent Gotosa and his three children to the rural areas due to the abuse.
“I’m tired of being beaten up by this woman. These women from the apostolic faith are troublesome. I therefore saw it fit to send her and our children to my mother so that I can have peace of mind,” said Dumbu.
Gotosa shot back and accused Dumbu of being an irresponsible father and a serial bed-hopper.
She however confirmed assaulting him
She said: “The reason I used to beat him up is because he had a lot of girlfriends. He then sent us to his mother during the school holidays and claimed he wanted me to spend time with her.
“I was surprised when his mother chased us away, saying I am no longer her daughter-in-law.”
She also claimed Dumbu now lives with his girlfriend in Cowdray Park.
Magistrate Victor Mpofu ordered Dumbu to pay $205 maintenance a month starting end of this month.
