Wild fruits lead to tragedy

A four-year-old girl from Gokwe died from complications she sustained after she was allegedly strangled by a 14-year-old boy during a fight over wild fruits, Masawu.

Acting Midlands provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the incident which occurred last week.

She said: “Police in Gokwe are investigating a case of murder which occurred at Chigoronga area under Chief Nenyuka, Gokwe North, whereby a 4-year-old girl was choked by a fellow villager while fighting over wild fruits called Masawu.”

Asst Insp Mukwende said on the fateful day at around 12.30pm, two sisters were gathering Masawu wild fruits from a tree near their homestead.
