AFTER helping Hwange to bounce back into the country’s elite football league at the end of 2018, veteran midfielder Canaan Nkomo ditched the coalminers and tracked his footsteps back to the Southern Region Division One league where he joined Bulawayo City at the beginning of 2019.
City is a club that Nkomo among other seasoned players assisted to gain promotion into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in the previous local football season.
It was a season in which Nkomo (33), fondly known as Kenzo, was crowned the 2019 Zifa Southern Region Division One Soccer Star of the Year as he played a crucial role in City’s title fight that pitted them against Talen Vision.
Despite all that, the hard running and skilful midfielder has again tracked back to Southern Region Division One league where he has joined Talen Vision.
“I think I have had my time in the premiership,” said the soft spoken former Chicken Inn player.
“I want to continue assisting clubs gain promotion hence my decision to move from Hwange, a team that I helped clinch the 2018 Zifa Southern region Division One League title and a place in the topflight. I also did well at Bulawayo City last season and I have decided to join Talen Vision where I think I can add value,” he added.
Talen Vision will seek to mount another challenge for the Premiership berth and Nkomo’s experience can always come in handy at the Trukumb Mining Enterprises-sponsored side.
Talen Vision acting spokesperson Juma Phiri said: “Canaan is now our player. We have finalised all the negotiations and he agreed to join us for this season. We are yet to rope in new players but we have started our pre-season and I am sure coaches will be working on who they want in their squad.”
The Mark Mathe-mentored outfit is still assessing former Warriors and Highlanders left back Zephaniah Ngodzo and ex-Chicken Inn and Railstars forward Thomas Chimenya amid revelations that the duo was on the verge of putting pen to paper.
Last year, Talen Vision made their intentions of becoming a competitive side and gaining promotion into the elite league known. They acquired the services of former Highlanders steely defender Douglas Sibanda, Adolf Muganyi, Adrian Banana and former Bosso fringe goalkeeper Nedric Madeya and later boosted their team with Obadiah Tarumbwa from Chicken Inn and Moses Majika from Bulawayo Chiefs.
Talen Vision are likely to be competing against Hwange, who were relegated from the Premiership and have roped in former Highlanders coach Bongani Mafu to take over as head coach and perennial campaigners, ZPC Hwange for the ticket to the topflight.
