Last season, Triangle United reached 38 points, and survived relegation on the last day of action.
The Lowveld side are in the same predicament again.
They are bottom of the log with 11 points after 20 rounds of action in the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
Just like last season, the Sugar Boys have once again turned to their Messiah, Genesis Mangombe. But this latest assignment could prove a difficult one for Mangombe, who has just 14 games to save Triangle United.
If the recent trend is anything to go by, then Triangle United need, at least 27 points, to survive. It means they might need, at least nine wins, from their last 14 games.
Although Mangombe is not yet willing to talk about his latest assignment, the gaffer acknowledges the magnitude of the task that lies ahead.
The youthful coach parted ways with Dynamos recently and immediately returned to Triangle United.
“I don’t have much to talk about at the moment.
“Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks,” Mangombe said.
His first match is against Herentals at Gibbo on Sunday. After that, Triangle United will play six more home games at Gibbo against Ngezi Platinum Stars, FC Hunters, Highlanders, Dynamos, Simba Bhora and Scottland.
The Sugar Boys will play seven away matches against Agama, Hardrock, Manica Diamonds, TelOne, Bulawayo Chiefs, MWOS and FC Platinum. With 11 points, Triangle United are nine points behind FC Hunters who occupy the last safe spot on the table.
TelOne, Agama and Manica Diamonds are the other teams in the relegation zone.
Agama and TelOne picked up crucial wins last weekend while Triangle United forced a draw against CAPS United at Rufaro.
Manica Diamonds were walloped 5-0 by defending champions Scottland.
The Gem Boys have since appointed Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa who is expected to take charge of his first match against ZPC Kariba at Sakubva on Sunday.
Maruwa replaced Patrick Mandizha to become Manica Diamonds’ fourth coach this season.
