Willdale plans to double sales

Willdale plans to double its sales volumes to over 100 million bricks this year from the 45 million that the firm achieved last year, chief executive Nyasha Matonda has said. In an interview, Matonda said Willdale is also targeting to produce 12 million bricks per month after the company invested over $3m in plant rehabilitation and equipment following a recapitalisation exercise.

“We’re targeting to hit above 100 million bricks in terms of sales volumes which is a big jump from the 45 million that we did last year.

“Production has to be more than this as we halt green production in the wet season but continue selling our products.

“We’re therefore targeting over 12 million bricks per month following our rights issue which has seen our whole supply chain being well resourced.

I’m confident the targets we’ve set are realistic,” he said.

Matonda said capacity utilisation levels which currently stand at 60 percent are expected to continue improving in the course of the year.

Looking ahead, Matonda said Willdale plans to acquire an all weather facility that will enable the company to produce bricks in the wet season.

“Traditionally we would halt production in the wet season to minimise damages; however, we’ve since embarked on an initiative to acquire a modern brick making facility that will enable us to produce bricks even during the rainy season.

“This will also see us boosting our production levels. We’ve since gone to tender and have registered interest from a number of companies from all over the globe including Chinese, South African, German and local companies,” he said. – Online
