Williams, Cairns make cut

THE Zimbabwean duo of Mark Williams and Ryan Cairns made the cut at the Vodacom Origins of Gold at Wild Coast Sun Country Club in Durban, South Africa, at the weekend. Williams had a good outing as he finished fourth at seven under-par. Cairns was a distant 31st after a two-over par 221. Williams shot an opening round of 68, which he followed with a 67 and closed with a 68 to stay in contention throughout the tournament.Cairns did well in the first two rounds, shooting 67 and 68 but then lost the plot in the final round with a disastrous last round of 77 saw him fall way off the pace.

Williams took home R34 533 while Cairns received R5 985.

The tournament was won by Zambian Madalitso Muthiya who has been improving with each passing tournament.

Muthiya, who has been playing well for the past three years, finally snatched his maiden Sunshine Tour win by carding a four-under-par 66 in a wind-swept final round.

The Zambian professional won at 11-under-par, two strokes better than Hennie du Plessis and Ockie Strydom.
