THE Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) has announced the death of Wing Commander John Katandika, who passed away on Wednesday.
He was 60.
In a statement released today, Staff Officer Grade One Public Relations, Wing Commander Donovan Muroyiwa said Wing Commander Katandika died following a short illness.
AFZ Commander, Air Marshal Jacob John Nzvede described Wing Commander Katandika’s death as a major loss to both the Air Force and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF).
He said the news of the senior officer’s passing had been received with profound shock and sadness.
“It is a sad moment for the Air Force of Zimbabwe and I want to express my deepest condolences to the Katandika and Marumbi families, his friends and colleagues,” said Air Marshal Nzvede.
“The late Wing Commander Katandika leaves behind a legacy of hard work and unwavering dedication to duty in the service of the AFZ and ZDF.”
The Air Marshal said the untimely death of Wing Commander Katandika had deprived both the AFZ and the ZDF of a loyal, dedicated and committed officer.
He described the late senior officer as a jovial individual who consistently placed duty before personal interests.
