Jonathan Banda, Winky D’s manager, said the song pays homage to some of the departed musicians who contributed to the development of Zimbabwean music.
“Jah-man I believe our fans understand the African philosophy in the afterlife, ‘Vashakabvu’ clearly tells the presence of the dead. He was acknowledging the legends who came before us,” said Banda.
The energetic Winky D has proved why he is among Zimbabwe’s top five dancehall musicians with fine delivery and heavy punchlines. The video takes you through from one great son of the soil to the next in an amazing fashion including pictures of Mbuya Nehanda, who died during the First Chimurenga.
Banda said the idea behind the song and the video was to show respect to some of the pioneers of great achievers not just in music but in sport and other spheres.
“Big up to all fallen music greats.(sic) They deserve to be honoured because they inspired what we have in the music game today. Their artistry is always our guideline and we cherish it forever,” said Banda.
The song is receiving heavy rotation on the airwaves.
