Speaking through his manager, Jonathan Banda, Winky D said the act was misguided and should never happen again.
“We are not going to stoop low and hit back at Sniper. We know the act was misguided and should never be repeated again.
“More importantly, we realised that we have to continue to uplift the music for youths and not engage in battles. The time for battling is over and whoever thinks that they can battle Winky D should look back and see where we have come from and where we are going.
“To this end, we have decided to forgive Sniper and forget that such a thing ever happened,” he said.
Winky D, real name Wallace Chirumiko, and Donald Chirisa aka Sniper Storm, were both curtain-raisers at the much-hyped Mavado debut show in Harare.
Things got out of control when Sniper snatched the microphone from Winky D now known as the “Ninja President” towards the end of his set accusing him of over-staying on stage.
According to the performing line-up, Winky D was supposed to hand over the microphone to Sniper Storm before he warmed the stage for Mavado.
Sniper has since apologised saying that his actions were out of frustration.
“What people need to understand is that I was supposed to perform just before Mavado came on stage but because the show started late and the promoters decided to cut the slots for all the artistes.
“However, Winky D – who was using a live band – was the only artiste who was given 45 minutes. The rest of the supporting acts were allocated 30 minutes each.
“But what frustrated me was the fact that Winky D delayed his performance and the band did their sound check for at least 30 minutes while everyone was waiting. I was waiting backstage and so was Mavado but after seeing that Winky D wasn’t
going to stop I decided to handle things my way,” Sniper said.
Asked why he did not handle the matter differently without causing chaos, Sniper aka the General said if he had not done what he did Winky D would have continued until late.
“I think it was regrettable that I took the microphone from him (Winky D) and I would like to apologise to my fans,” Sniper said.
The well attended show saw Jiggaz and upcoming chanter known as Spiderman taking part while Freeman of the Joina City fame thrilled fans like never before.
Jamaican dancehall superstar Mavado was the icing on the cake although he was using back tracks.
