SINGER and dancer Winnie Khumalo got tongues wagging when she arrived at the Mzansi Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in a wheelchair pushed by DJ Cleo.

However, many were confused when she got up and danced while performing her hit single, Yile Gqom, with DJ Cleo at the close of the event on Saturday evening.

Asked about the wheelchair, Winnie said she had an operation last week, but missing the ceremony was not an option for her.

“I’m part of a team and I know it can be felt when one member is not there, which is why I decided to attend despite being in pain. I’d a major operation almost six weeks ago to remove an abscess on my bum, but there was a complication and I had to have surgery again last Monday,” she said.

“I missed a couple of rehearsals during the week because I was still in pain, but I’ll make sure I rest most of this week so I can recover before my next event later in the week.”

DJ Cleo, who had not had a major performance since 2010, said he was happy the audience enjoyed their act.

“I was nervous during our performance, but I was relieved after the show when a lot of people told us they were impressed,” he said.

Another shocker at the awards was Zodwa Wabantu who made a cameo appearance on stage during Lady Zamar’s set, fully clothed. Her moves drove the crowd wild, something which made her boss, DJ Tira very proud.— DailySun.
