KHAYELIHLE Children’s Village yesterday received a consignment of winter clothes for its children from a United Kingdom-based donor.
The orphanage, which houses a total of 45 children, including 35 girls and 10 boys, received over 50 winter wear clothes.
The clothes were shipped from the United Kingdom and were delivered in a container to the orphanage.
The donor, Ms Beatrice Mashonga, revealed that she was inspired to donate the winter clothes after seeing the efforts being done by the Doing Good Trust, which has been embarking on various activities to support the vulnerable in the community since 2016.
“This is not about charity for recognition, this is about obedience to a divine instruction and about being a vessel of love, care and provision for God’s children.
“Our children, these young souls, deserve love, care, dignity and every opportunity to grow into their full potential and while this donation may seem modest, it comes from a place of deep appreciation and genuine hope,” she said.

She urged communities and individuals to come together to help those in need saying it is a token and a symbol of achieving a good cause.
The orphanage’s Donor Relations Officer, Mrs Thembelihle Rufu expressed gratitude for the generous donation made, saying that it came at a perfect time when it was cold.
“Most of our children are either orphaned, vulnerable, or abandoned children, some of whom come as siblings, while others are individual cases. When we get such donations, we are really happy because it means more comfort for our children,” said Mrs Rufu.
To sustain the orphanage, she revealed that they engage in various projects like horticulture and poultry, which help generate income used for running costs.
She, however, said they face challenges, which include boreholes drying out during the summer season and worn-out tractors that are instrumental in carrying out projects effectively.
“We would be grateful for assistance in refurbishing our poultry unit to increase our chicken capacity. Additionally, drilling another borehole would ensure a steady water supply throughout the seasons, especially during the dry months.
“A donation of a new tractor would greatly aid our harvesting and field preparation,” she said.
Doing Good Projects Trust’s founder Mr Brilliant Sithole, said Ms Mashonga has been a follower of the trust since its formation in 2016 and has supported their charity projects.
He said after announcing their intended winter visit to the orphanage, she volunteered to donate winter clothes.
“Our vision is summed up by scripture, Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to share do not forget, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased,” he said.
