SOUTH African performing artiste Kurt Egelhof has partnered with Women in Theatre in theatre exchange programmes following the successful showing of Mother’s in Cape Town last month. Egelhof, who is the national chairman of the Performing Arts Network of South Africa (PANSA), staged a successful one-man play called For Generations at last month’s Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo.

Mother’s is a brain child of Nhimbe Trust under the WIT programme and Egelhof was brought into the country by the organisation.
Under the theatre exchange programme supported by Nhimbe Trust, performing artistes from both countries will make trips yearly. It began when Sarah Mpofu-Sibanda and Xanier Dhlomo travelled to South Africa to perform their play Mother’s at the Cape Town Fringe Festival.

WIT co-ordinator Dhlomo said the partnership and its exchange programme began last month when Egelhof was in Zimbabwe to perform his play, For Generations.
“The partnership and its exchange programme began last month when the National Chair of PANSA, Kurt Egelhof was in Zimbabwe to perform his play, For Generations at the recently ended Intwasa Arts Festival in Bulawayo.

“Women in Theatre actresses Musa Sibanda and Sarah Mpofu-Sibanda attended the Cape Town Fringe Festival under PANSA’s Taxi Project,” she said.
Dhlomo added that the partnership was going to help them improve as performing artistes as it would continue next year.

“Egelhof was in Bulawayo where he conducted a three-day master class at Nhimbe Trust on play creation from September 25 to 27 with a number of local theatre practitioners attending the training.

“Two outstanding plays, one each from Tsitsi Gumbo and Mhondiwa Mhepo, emerged from the training and Egelhof offered to provide online rehearsal support to the two actors,” she said.
