POWER Giants CEO, Engineer Edzai Kachirekwa, donated building materials worth US$20 000 towards Champion International College’s boarding school, which is being built, and is set to open next year in Uzumba.
Dr Kachirekwa, the brains behind various innovations in Zimbabwe’s energy sector, also donated 20 000 bricks, a transformer and funds to buy a Starlink package, to drill a borehole and other building materials like door frames.
“We are doing this as part of our corporate social responsibility, our relationship should continue so we must support each other for the betterment of our nation at large.
“The reason we want to buy the new system of Starlink is for the school to have easy access to the internet.”
Dr Kachirekwa — who is behind the Mandatory Domestic Energy Fund initiative — the Afro Eurasia Energy Centre and Power Giants Southern and East Africa, said he is simply contributing to vision 2030.
He also wants to ensure the country strategically positions itself into a regional energy hub.
His vision is for Zimbabwe to become a key energy exporter in the region and beyond through spearheading various renewable energy projects, partnerships and investments.
Speaking ahead of the opening of the boarding school, Champion College CEO, Dr Tendesai Mushamba, said he was humbled by Dr Kachirekwa.
Champion College started with one person in Harare Gardens and it now has more than 300 students.
“I am very much humbled by Dr Kachirekwa, this donation is going to force my team and I to push and fast-track what we, as an organisation, agreed upon and we are building a boarding school in Uzumba and the school will open next year.
“We will continue to make an impact at our college. We believe the reason why we continue shining is because of excellent relationships we have with our clients and those surrounding us.
“It signifies that our efforts are valued and inspires us to strive for even greater accomplishments,” he said.
Within a space of two years Dr Mushamba has managed to receive quite a number of awards.
Doctor Mushamba has also trained individuals from different organisations such as Grain Marketing Board, PSMAS, FBC, ZETDC, CABS, Old Mutual, Nyaradzo, ZRP Inspectors, ZNA, Telone, PNP and NRZ inter-alia
Doctor Mushamba received the Gold Award for Entrepreneurs in Education and Learning by the Annual National Iconic Entrepreneurs Awards in 2023.
Champion College and Doctor Mushamba received the following awards from the Zimbabwe Business Awards Board;
