Lawrence Tshuma (27), of Cobic Mine, Colleen Bawn in Gwanda, beat up Buphilo Nyathi (30) of the same area following an argument involving a previous fight by their wives.
Both men are employed at Cobic Mine.
Tshuma pleaded not guilty to the assault, but was convicted by Gwanda provincial magistrate Ms Sheila Nazombe.
Two months of the sentence were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within the next five years.
Sentencing Tshuma, Ms Nazombe said the court was convinced that he and his family loved boxing, adding that they should exhibit their boxing skill in the legal ring.
The magistrate said Tshuma was the aggressor because he confronted Nyathi at his homestead with the assistance of his brother.
“You are a family of boxers and I have no doubt of the fact that you are the one who injured the complainant. You were the aggressor because you approached him at his home and you had your brother to assist you assault Nyathi,” said Ms Nazombe.
In his defence Tshuma said he had gone to Nyathi’ homestead with no intention to fight, but had gone there to seek audience over the fight between his wife and Nyathi’s.
He blamed Nyathi and his wife for causing problems in his family.
Witnesses testified that Tshuma was the one who confronted Nyathi at his homestead.
