Woman (38) jailed for attempted murder

A 38-year-old Lupane woman has been jailed for two years after she burnt down a hut in which another woman and her

daughter were sleeping.

Thobekile Ncube (38) of Mlonyeni Village under Chief Mabhikwa, Lupane appeared before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court on

attempted murder charges.

On August 29, 2024, a woman aged 24 and her five-year-old daughter were sleeping in their bedroom when they noticed that

the hut was on fire.

They quickly got out with some of their belongings before the whole hut was destroyed by the fire.

Investigations revealed that Ncube was responsible for setting the hut on fire and was arrested.

She was this week initially sentenced to five years in prison before three years were suspended for five years.
