Man jailed for 18 years for killing 94-year-old grandmother

A Shurugwi man has been jailed for 18 years for killing his 94-year-old grandmother whom he accused of placing a curse on

him and his siblings that was causing their suffering, misfortune and poverty.

Takudzwa Mugariri (27) of Marozva Village under Chief Banga appeared at the High Court in Gweru facing murder charges.

On February 3, 2024, Mugariri went to his grandmother’s home where he accused her of placing a curse on him and his

siblings.

He also accused her of being responsible for their suffering, misfortune and poverty. Mugariri burnt her clothes and traditional

medicines before he struck her with a wooden log several times on the head, face, buttocks, and back leading to her death.

A report was made leading to his arrest.
