A 30-year-old woman from Mount Pleasant is accused of abandoning her injured husband and four children after her social media posts involving a foreign man drew widespread backlash.
Fungisai Kamudyariwa is alleged to have packed her belongings and left the family home after what sources described as her “shenanigans” with an unidentified Chinese man came to light. Her children – aged 4, 6, 9 and 12 – were left stranded when Pascal Mhonda (35) returned from hospital treatment.
Mhonda, who had been receiving care after an injury sustained while on duty, said he came home to find the house empty.
Kamudyariwa later confirmed the incident, claiming she left due to negative comments that followed her posts. She denied that she was in an illicit relationship, saying the videos were meant to be “fun.”
“I left my husband and children because of some negative comments I got after my videos with the Chinese man went viral,” Kamudyariwa said.
She also argued that the man was too old to be her lover and said relatives, including members of her husband’s family, criticized her.
“The Chinese man is too old to be my lover and people that included relatives of my husband said a lot against me,” she said.
Kamudyariwa further claimed she feared her husband might attack her because he had been silent about the issues at home.
“I suspected that my husband would attack me during sleep since he was silent about it,” she said.
She added that her husband’s injury – described as a fracture on his thigh – was not the reason she left, but said public criticism became too overwhelming.
“My husband got injured and suffered a fracture on his thigh that I do not think bedroom life will work again. It is not the reason for leaving my family but the words against me were too damaging that I could not withstand,” she said, adding that she wanted to know who was taking the matter to the media.
Pascal told this publication that he was injured while moving an industrial generator when it accidentally fell on his leg. He said he was treated at hospital but is not fully recovered.
“My wife left me and the children at a time when I needed comfort and assistance,” Pascal said.
He added that he took the children to his mother in the village while he recovered.
“My wife was lured by a visiting Chinese man and got obsessed with him within a short period to the extend of celebrating their illicit affair on social media,” he said.
Pascal said his employer met the medical expenses, but he is now back at work while still in pain.
“I am yet to recover. I am in pain, I need help,” he said, sobbing.
He also regretted that he failed to obtain birth certificates for the children while his wife was still at home.
