A 63-YEAR-OLD woman from Old Magwegwe in Bulawayo heaved a sigh of relief after being acquitted of assault charges against her employer.

Angeline Mathe was acquitted of all charges by Magistrate Ernest Muzembi, who ruled that the State had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The allegations stemmed from an incident which occurred on 20 September 2020. The complainant, Heidi Zlattner, who had an injured arm from a motor accident, wanted to inspect the ladies’ toilets. Mathe offered to push her wheelchair.

Zlattner, who also needed to use the toilet, asked Mathe to push her back to her office so she could use her own toilet instead of the employee toilets.

After using the toilet, Zlattner called Mathe for help getting back into her wheelchair. When Mathe entered the toilet, it was alleged that she grabbed Zlattner’s injured arm and pulled it, refusing to stop despite being asked to do so.

Throughout the trial, Mathe denied the allegations, claiming she had no memory of the incident.
