Woman beaten up in love triangle

Midlands Reporter
A love triangle involving three  visually impaired people in Gweru turned  violent when a jealous husband assaulted his wife for reportedly rekindling her relations with her former husband.Mahlevo Samakwama, 44, of House Number 8B Christmas Gift in Gweru assaulted his wife, Susan Kafata, 35, when he heard rumours  that she was seeing her ex-husband again.

Samakwama was convicted on his own plea to a charge of domestic violence by Judith Taruvinga who sentenced him to an effective four months imprisonment.

Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma told   the court that three days after this  year’s Valentine’s Day, Samakwama came home late at night and found his wife asleep.

He then woke her up and started accusing her of having an extra-marital affair with her ex-husband. The court heard that an argument arose leading to Samakwama pummelling his wife with fists.

When Samakwama was asked by the magistrate why he assaulted his wife, he said he got jealous when he heard that his wife and ex-husband were planning to reconcile.

“I got jealous when I heard that the two were seeing each other and I also learnt that her ex-husband wanted the two to reconcile. What also angered me is that  my wife was entertaining him,” he said.
