A woman from Emakhandeni suburb in Bulawayo has shocked fellow residents after she allegedly beat her 15 months old baby and poked the child’s eyes until she became blind.

It is reported that Nokuthula Sibanda was found by her husband, Norbert Ncube, beating the baby and when Ncube tried to restrain Sibanda she shoved fists into his face. Ncube lost balance and fell on the floor.

Sibanda then reportedly returned to beating her vulnerable baby with fists and open hands and poked her eyes. She only stopped after Ncube got his strength back, rose from the ground and pushed her away.

“Ncube took the child to the hospital and that is when it was discovered that the baby’s eyes had been damaged,” said a reliable source.

Ncube has since approached the courts in order to get justice wherein he is seeking a protection from his abusive wife.

“I am tired of living with a woman who beats up my children for no reason. Recently she beat up my child and damaged her eye, and so now my baby is blind. She is also very abusive to my other children who are in Grades 1 and 3. She makes them do their own laundry and makes them clean the whole house on their own,” said Ncube.

Ncube also took the opportunity to reveal that he was also regularly bashed by his wife.

“Nokuthula also beats me with anything she picks for no apparent reason claiming that I cannot do anything to her since her father is a police officer. Another thing that pains me is that she insults my mother and blocks her from visiting me and the children,” said Ncube.

Presiding Western Commonage magistrate Stephen Ndlovu granted an interim order.
