A Harare woman took a man she had a child with to court claiming an upward maintenance variation.
Catherine Furidze told the court that the current $60 000 she is receiving from Langton Mawire, was no longer enough for the upkeep of their young child.
“I want an upward variation. He is irresponsible and does not want to meet me halfway.
“He is not abiding by court orders such as buying stationery for the child and I am not even sure if he paid school fees,” she said.
In response, Mawire said he was unemployed, but doing his best to cater for his child.
“I will give her $60 000 plus 50 percent fees because I am not employed.
“She has been lying to me about the things needed at school and when I confirmed with the school teacher, I was told a different thing.
“I want the child to be transferred to a government school when the child starts Form One,” he said.
Furidze brushed aside Mawire’s accusations and provided proof to the court that every need she forwards to him were from the child’s school.
“He is lying that I have not been honest with him about the child’s needs, and I have evidence to support that,” she said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Mawire to pay $72 000 plus school fees.
