WOMAN DEMANDS US$250 MAINTENANCE FROM TEACHER

A HARARE woman yesterday demanded US$250 maintenance from her ex-husband for the upkeep of their two children.

Precious Makusha told the Harare Civil Court that her ex-hubby, Tendai Benjamin, was a teacher and could afford her claim.

However, Tendai offered to pay only US$40 for their two children aged five and two years.

He said he was also taking care of his stepchildren, enrolled at the Zimbabwe Open University, and had a loan to repay.

“I am married and I’m also looking after my wife’s children. I took a loan that I haven’t finished paying and take home US$190, which is not enough to sustain me,” said Tendai.

He said Precious was a tailor and she should also contribute half of the care of their children.

Magistrate Ayanda Dlamini ordered Tendai to pay US$70 for the children’s maintenance.
