WOMAN DEMANDS US$2K MAINTENANCE

A HARARE woman yesterday claimed an upward variation of maintenance from US$100 to US$2 000 a month.

Josephine Dube told the court that the father of her two children, Samuel Dube, was a man of means earning               US$5 000 per month.

“I want him to increase the money to US$2 000 because things are now expensive.

“The last time we came here, he told the court that he will pay for accommodation, but he never paid anything.

“He promised to pay bus fare for our children and never did, and I am now forced to ferry them to and from school because they need special care,” said Josephine.

She said their 11-year-old son has a heart problem and undergoes therapy every two weeks, and requires a lot of medicines which cannot be bought using US$100.

“He used to pay for the child’s medication using his medical aid, but now it is impossible because hospitals and clinics demand foreign currency,” she said.

Dube did not attend the court hearing, but magistrate Ayanda Dlamini dismissed Josephine’s application citing lack of merit.

“You were in court in July, nothing changed on your claims and you should seek a warrant of arrest, not an upward variation,” said magistrate Dlamini.
