A MAN’S comment that his 44-year-old wife’s breasts “are sagging like that of a dog”, could end their 23-year-old marriage.
Muriel Mkandla is now seeking dissolution of marriage after Jealous Ziki of Phenduka Village in Esiphezini, Umzingwane District, chastised her because her breasts had succumbed to the force of gravity.
She told the court that besides comparing her breasts to those of a dog, Ziki also insulted her family saying they were lazy goats who do nothing but spend the whole day drinking beer.
Mkandla said she was afraid of Ziki because he had tried to kill her three times using a spear and other dangerous weapons.
Mkandla told Bulawayo magistrate Mr Victor Mpofu that these were just a few of Ziki’s many insults, and she was too embarrassed to repeat some of the insults.
Mkandla and Ziki have been married for 23 years and have four children.
“Your Worship, since 2008, this man has put me through hell. He usually takes the money that I and my children get from our harvest sales claiming that he wants to open a tuck-shop but has never done anything,” she said.
“He told me that he will come with his new wife and people will nod their heads on seeing her. He told me to go back home at around 1am. I went back home and the following morning I found out that my other child slept next door and another slept in the fields. It was very cold and I was so hurt. He told me that I will leave with nothing.”
She told the court that Ziki’s “new wife”, who was only identified as MaZulu, phoned her saying Mkandla should tell Ziki to stop bothering her because she was a married woman.
“It’s not like I am insulting him, but he has never even bought me anything, even underwear. As we speak, I left our home with nothing. I left my maize and other crops on the farm. He told me that he would hire people to harvest everything that I and my children worked for,” she said.
Ziki denied the allegations and told the court that he loved Mkandla very much.
“She is suspecting that I have another wife and children. I still love my wife and it is just a misunderstanding like any other day. I have never abused her in any way and I have always been supportive,” he said.
However, Mkandla said: “Your Worship, ever since I went back home he has never bothered to come. He only came three days ago with his family when I had sent him summons. It shows he does not care about us.”
